Because Stamford Harbor’s entrance is obstructed by treacherous reefs a light house was built and lit in 1882. The “spark plug” style lighthouse is 3,600 feet from shore and made from cast iron. The cast iron sections, which were manufactured in Boston, were assembled on a pier 28 feet high. The light was discontinued in 1953 then sold to a private party in 1955.
